Gabriel Archanjo

Gabriel Archanjo works with paintings and drawings that present the strength and resistance of Black bodies, their histories, affections, and inscriptions. His practice works across a range of supports—from canvas to lighter-weight papers—where materiality serves as a foundation for investigating historical depths and ancestralities. The artist portrays figures whose gazes and gestures confront the viewer and signal the preservation of integrity in the face of sociopolitical impositions. Through layers of color and texture, his compositions reveal sensitive actions and choreographies that emerge from space, articulating subjectivities, collective memories, and situations gathered from everyday life.

He presented the solo exhibition "Percepções" through Sesc Piauí (2016). He has participated in the group exhibitions "Dos Brasis—Arte e Pensamento Negro" (Sesc Belenzinho, São Paulo, 2023), "Arte Piauí Hoje" (Rio de Janeiro, 2010), and the Rede Nacional de Artes Visuais—FUNARTE (Rio de Janeiro, 2008), among other projects, including Sesc Amazônia das Artes. His works are part of the collection of the Museu do Piauí, in Teresina.
